Spring has finally sprung on the Crookston Pond. Despite having had literally hundreds of excitable frogs and toads producing vast amounts of spawn in March/April, virtually no tadpoles emerged until the last week. Experts tell us this was due to the unseasonably cold weather. We now have clouds of taddies drifting around the pond – quite a sight!
Last week, a mummy mallard was seen on the pond with 8 tiny youngsters. Two further sightings followed with her little fluffballs but she hasn’t been seen since. We are hoping she has dropped down onto the burn and into the Galawater and is looking after little ones.
