Hodge Cairn has breathtaking views over the valley to a former hill fort, with a cairn, from which it derives its name. The hut has a Scandi feel to it, with painted panelled walls and light-coloured kitchen units in its fully fitted kitchen. Its focal point is a raised king-sized bed, made with beech from the Crookston House grounds, which appears to float and has a stunning back lit feature wall and star gazing roof light. The large shower room has a double shower cubicle with a rainfall shower head and is larger than shower rooms in many houses!
General Information
Guest are asked to park their cars at Crookston House, which is approximately 250m from the Resting House and 350m from Hodge Cairn. The walk to the huts is up a gradual incline and would not be suitable for anyone who finds walking difficult.
Wheel barrows are provided to assist with luggage and provisions and if required, Malcolm or Georgie will assist with a quad bike and trailer.
The huts are fully equipped to enable guest to self-cater. There are a good number of local pubs and restaurants and it may be possible for guests to eat in Crookston House subject to prior arrangement with Malcolm and Georgie.
No pets please.
Logs will be provided for the wood burning stove, fire pit and outside bath. More logs are available at £5 per bag for the fire pit logs and £10 a bag for the hard wood logs needed for the bath.
We advise guests to bring a head torch for navigating around the grounds after dark.
Wellies are an essential in wet weather. Boot racks are provided and are on the veranda outside each hut.
Walks can be enjoyed within the grounds of the house where paths are cut. We ask guests to avoid walking in the fields and to keep away from the farm buildings to the north.
